ACTION

Praferan Tablets contain three active ingredients having different modes of action and spectra of activity. Praziquantel is active against cestodes (tapeworms). Praziquantel is absorbed, metabolized in the liver and excreted in the bile. Upon entering the digestive tract from the bile, cestocidal activity is exhibited. Following exposure to praziquantel, the tapeworm loses its ability to resist digestion by the mammalian host. Because of this, whole tapeworms, including the scolices, are very rarely passed after administration of praziquantel. In many instances only disintegrated and partially digested pieces of tapeworms will be seen in the stool. The majority of tapeworms are digested and are not found in the feces.

Pyrantel pamoate is active against hookworms and ascarids. Pyrantel pamoate acts on the cholinergic receptors of the nematode resulting in spastic paralysis. Peristaltic action of the intestinal tract then eliminates the parasite. 

Febantel is active against nematode parasites including whipworms. Febantel is rapidly absorbed and metabolized in the animal. Available information suggests that the parasite’s energy metabolism is blocked, leading to energy exchange breakdown and inhibited glucose uptake.

Compatability – Praferan may be combined with other treatments, for example heartworm prevention, flea and tick treatment.

Dosage : 1/4 tablet per 1.5-2.5 kg or 3.3-5.5 lbs pet weight
                     1/2 tablet per 3-5 kg or 6.6-11 lbs pet weight
                     3/4 tablet per 5-7 kg or 11-15.4 lbs pet weight
                     1 tablet per 7-10 kg or 15.4-22 lbs pet weight
                     1 1/2 tablet per 11-15 kg or 24.2-33 lbs pet weight
                     2 tablet per 16-20 kg or 35.2-44 lbs pet weight
                     2 1/2 tablet per 21-25 kg or 46.3-55 lbs pet weight

Tablet can be cut into half or quarters

Deworming Recommendations

Deworm puppies and kittens at age 4, 6 and 8 weeks of age and then monthly until 6 months of age.

For routine control adult dogs should be treated every 3-6 months.  In the event of a heavy roundworm infestation, a repeat dose should be given after 14 days.

Do not use in pregnant pets Treat at mating and after whelping at least 2 weeks.

Don’t forget the flea control!
Fleas are often infected with the larvae of the Flea Tapeworm, which can be transferred to your pet by swallowing the flea while grooming. So in order to control worms, you also need to control fleas.
Store Praferan at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep out of the reach of children and pets.

Safety

• Ivermectin is considered a relatively safe medication for treating most dogs. But there can be side effects -- especially if the dogs are given too large a dose or if the medication is given in combination with a sedative such as Valium, an amitraz dip or other amitraz treatment, or the flea preventative Comfortis. Depression, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, lack of coordination, seizures and excessive salivation may result.

Warnings

• Collies and other herding breeds may not react well to ivermectin and should be treated only under the supervision of a veterinarian. Caution should also be used when using this medicaiton on dogs that are positive for heart worm infection.
• Not approved for use on puppies younger than 12 weeks.

Toxicity    In collies, Australian sheepdogs and some collie mixes appear above 100 mcg/kg(45.4 mcg/lb).  In other dogs, toxic signs are seen at doses at and above 800 mcg/kg(363.2 mcg/lb). (Cats probably about the same as dogs). Subcutaneous administration of horse, pig and cattle preparations to dogs or cats may cause local problems due to the vehicle.

Ivermectin Over Dose

In case of overdose, contact the veterinary medical room or the poison control center immediately. You can suspect an overdose if you find any overdose symptoms such as: vomiting, lethargy, tremors etc.

        Dosage

- The recommended dosage of Ivermectin for dogs to prevent heartworm is 0.0015 milligrams to 0.003 milligrams(1.5 mcg to 3 mcg) per pound of body weight once a month. (1 tablet / 66-88 lbs (30-40 kg) up once a month)

                        1/4 tab for 11-22 lbs up (5-10 kg)

                           1/2 tab for 22-44 lbs up (10-20 kg)

                        3/4 tab for 44-66 lbs up (20-30 kg)

- To treat and prevent skin parasites, such as fleas, ticks and mange, give your dog 0.15 milligrams(150 mcg)per pound of body weight once a month.  (1 tablet / 23 lbs,10 kg)

1/4 tab for 5.5-7 lbs (2.5-3 kg)
 1/2 tab for 7-12 lbs (3-5.5 kg)
3/4 tab for 12-17 lbs (5.5-7.5 kg)
1   tab for 17-23 lbs (7.5-10 kg)
1 1/4 tab for 23-28 lbs (10-13 kg)
 1 1/2 tab for 28-35 lbs (13-16 kg) 
 2   tabs for 35-46 lbs (16-20 kg)
But if you would like to get rid of ticks mange you have to repeat the dosage in 7-14 days and 14-21 days at least 2 times.
  
 

- If you are treating for gastrointestinal parasites such as round worms, the dosage is 0.2 milligrams(200 mcg) per pound of body weight. (1 tablet / 20 lbs,9 kg)
