Safety

• Ivermectin is considered a relatively safe medication for treating most dogs. But there can be side effects -- especially if the dogs are given too large a dose or if the medication is given in combination with a sedative such as Valium, an amitraz dip or other amitraz treatment, or the flea preventative Comfortis. Depression, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, lack of appetite, lack of coordination, seizures and excessive salivation may result.

Warnings

• Collies and other herding breeds may not react well to ivermectin and should be treated only under the supervision of a veterinarian. Caution should also be used when using this medicaiton on dogs that are positive for heart worm infection.
• Not approved for use on puppies younger than 12 weeks.

Toxicity    In collies, Australian sheepdogs and some collie mixes appear above 100 mcg/kg(45.4 mcg/lb).  In other dogs, toxic signs are seen at doses at and above 800 mcg/kg(363.2 mcg/lb). (Cats probably about the same as dogs). Subcutaneous administration of horse, pig and cattle preparations to dogs or cats may cause local problems due to the vehicle.

Ivermectin Over Dose

In case of overdose, contact the veterinary medical room or the poison control center immediately. You can suspect an overdose if you find any overdose symptoms such as: vomiting, lethargy, tremors etc.

        Dosage

- The recommended dosage of Ivermectin for dogs to prevent heartworm is 0.0015 milligrams to 0.003 milligrams(1.5 mcg to 3 mcg) per pound of body weight once a month. (1 tablet / 66-88 lbs (30-40 kg) up once a month)

                        1/4 tab for 11-22 lbs up (5-10 kg)

                           1/2 tab for 22-44 lbs up (10-20 kg)

                        3/4 tab for 44-66 lbs up (20-30 kg)

- To treat and prevent skin parasites, such as fleas, ticks and mange, give your dog 0.15 milligrams(150 mcg)per pound of body weight once a month.  (1 tablet / 23 lbs,10 kg)

1/4 tab for 5.5-7 lbs (2.5-3 kg)
 1/2 tab for 7-12 lbs (3-5.5 kg)
3/4 tab for 12-17 lbs (5.5-7.5 kg)
1   tab for 17-23 lbs (7.5-10 kg)
1 1/4 tab for 23-28 lbs (10-13 kg)
 1 1/2 tab for 28-35 lbs (13-16 kg) 
 2   tabs for 35-46 lbs (16-20 kg)
But if you would like to get rid of ticks mange you have to repeat the dosage in 7-14 days and 14-21 days at least 2 times.
  
 

- If you are treating for gastrointestinal parasites such as round worms, the dosage is 0.2 milligrams(200 mcg) per pound of body weight. (1 tablet / 20 lbs,9 kg)
